Getting ourself and our country cleaned up for the Lord
Getting ourself and our country cleaned up for the Lord gradually comes into focus. We are clearly getting into some of the birth pangs, fairly intense ones at that. It’s a call for repentance and dedication to the Lord whom we serve. It’s a call to save our neighbors and aquaintances.
I shared last week Joel Rosenberg’s poll showing nearly half of Americans believe this time is a “wake up call” for people to turn back to the Lord. Over a third believe we are in the last days. So what does this mean to us?
What are the other half doing?
This is a quote from Axios, today. April 5, 2020. This is what the half who don’t think this is a spiritual event are doing. The stories about violence, abuse, and hard drugs are rampant. These just three indicators.
Alcohol sales were up 55% in the week ending March 21, according to Nielsen, which measures consumer markets in addition to media. Spirits were up 75%, followed by wine up 66% and beer up 42%. Online alcohol sales were up 243%.
Weed sales are soaring in places across the country where buying marijuana is legal, although some businesses have been caught flat-footed by the demand.
Porn consumption is up, according to the website Pornhub. Traffic from the U.S. (Pornhub’s largest market) was up 6.4% on March 17.
Getting ourself and our country cleaned up for the Lord has become crucial
In some ways this is a real opportunity. Over a quarter of secular Americans believed this. That means you may find yourself with opportunities to share about Jesus and even harvest some souls. As you try to help them through the fear, they may see your peace and ask you why.
But it is also a strong warning about how far we have fallen. Well over half don’t believe this has any spiritual implications. This means there are millions of people who are blithely headed for Hell.
It’s a call for prayer and anointing. Pretty soon it will be too late. If the Lord can save any of them, it will probably be in the next decade—if we even have that much time. Pretty soon we’ll be past this crisis, and the opportunity will be gone.
It has nothing to do with patriotism or politics
This is all about the choice with which we are all faced. Will you choose Jesus or the enemy? God does not send anyone to Hell. A person choses to go there.
This week we celebrate the incredible price Jesus paid to buy us the opportunity to escape the wrath which is coming upon those who hate God. We are all eternal beings who can spend eternity in a kingdom of love, joy, and peace. Or you can choose eternal separation in darkness and pain.
Jesus helped create us
All things were made through Him and for Him. All he asks is your love and reverence. We live on a world which is still beautiful, even though we are doing our level best to destroy it. Aren’t you tired of the pain, conflict, anger, and all the rest? Turn to Jesus and find some peace.
