On a lighter note: we have a legal replacement for Comic Sans…Comic Neue

One of the most maligned fonts in recent years is Comic Sans. I’ve never really understood why people (especially type pros) hate Comic Sans so bad. But then, it’s really not a part of my life.

This is the new solution: Comic Neue!

If you click on the image above it will take you to the page where you can download this for free. The change is fairly radical, but it does have a similar feel to the dreaded Comic Sans.

I just think it’s fun. Craig Rozynski, an Australian digital designer in Japan, headed up the design of the project which was funded by Kickstarter (as far as I know). It’s all shown on the link above..

  1. I like it. Fonts are strangely fascinating; both nit picky, yet making a big difference in the feel and experience of reading.
    Comic Sans is too bulky to be practical mostly. Plus, like anything overused, it later gives a dated look even if there isn’t anything inherently poor about the design.
    The open “a” design is one I watch for as I write for kids and want to subtly hint that my work is for them not stuffy grownups. This one looks like it would work great in any classroom setting.
