A good article on kerning in InDesign magazine for July
Kerning is that area of typography rarely talked about. Ilene Strizver has a good article on kerning, both what it is and how to accomplish it, in the July issue of InDesign magazine.
One of the sure signs of a pro book designer is in the kerning of the heads and subheads. That along with solid widow, orphan, and runt control are major areas of page layout normally ignored completely by users of Words.
Of course, the sad part is that there is no control of any of this in an ebook. But, that’s a story for a different day.
InDesign Secrets & InDesign magazine
If you are at all serious about Indesign, you should consider a membership to Secrets, which includes a subscription to the magazine. There are free memberships which are very helpful. But the paid subscription at $6 a month or $60 a year is a very good deal. And no, they do not have affiliate relationships. So, I’m not getting a cut.
