Happy New Year and welcome back to the Fontlab webinar series! To start off the new year (Tuesday, 21 January at 11:00CST) David Bergsland will talk to us about troubleshooting the font design process.
For many, if not most, new font designers dealing with the sheer quantity of characters and glyphs is daunting. What is needed is a procedure to get your new font underway while avoiding dead ends, backtracking, false starts, and the myriad of other possible problems. Many of these issues arise simply because you have not seen the priorities involved with beginning a new font design.
David is known for dealing with the practicalities of font design in a logical step-by-step fashion. As a largely self-taught font designer for nearly twenty years he has made many of the possible mistakes and developed techniques to avoid them. His goal is to give you a foundation from which you can have the freedom to develop your own style. By simply building your characters in a simple workflow, you can eliminate many of your production problems. This is practical stuff – no bloviating. Learn the basic concepts of how to troubleshoot a font AS you put it together – in less than an hour.
David Bergsland is the author of the Practical Font Design series of books.
