Great free resource for old books on calligraphy & penmanship
I found this link in an article on CreativePro this morning.
International Association of Master Penmen • Engrossers • Teachers of Handwriting
This organization [IAMPETH] began as a group where penmen could get together and share techniques and ideas not just about doing fine penmanship, but teaching the art as well. In this day of computerized type, hand pen work is truly amazing to those who can barely use a ballpoint. Here’s an example from their page of rare books. This one is a page from a book called Pearls of Promise. The original scan is a bit larger than 16″ x 18″ at 300 dpi.
It is hard for us to imagine that this was not all that uncommon 150 years ago. My parents had wonderful penmanship skills, as does my wife. Mine are almost gone—starting from the handicap of left-handedness and dealt a death blow by computer software.
But their Rare Books page has four and a half dozen old books like these.
