The new paradigm of free publishing: free whitepaper
Things have really changed—free whitepaper.
Above is a link to a free PDF about how to publish your book for free in print, downloadable PDF, ePUB on iBooks and NookBooks, Kindle book, and various ebook formats. Included are marketing materials and intensive marketing—all for free.
This is the new paradigm of on-demand publishing
What has happened with few people noticing is that books have become a creative effort for fine artists and authors of all types. Not only that: it can be done by the “poor, starving artist”. As long as you have a good computer and Adobe’s Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium, you can now treat books like you do a blank canvas, a sheet of watercolor paper, a block of marble, or any other creative medium.
This is happening throughout the fine arts. GarageBand and iMovie with iTunes and YouTube have done that to a certain extent with video and music. But on-demand publishing really ramps things up because you can produce fully professional products that are limited only by your creativity. There are no committees, agents, editors, juries, or any other bureaucratic system to hinder your creative process.
It has been a true joy to discover that I find writing, formatting, and publishing books much more fulfilling than I ever did paintings, drawings, etchings, or any of the other fine art endeavors I pursued with my fine art career. I write all the copy; design all the fonts used; create all the graphics; do all the formatting, and complete the finished book—all with a capital outlay of zero.
Now it is true that I can invest a little money for a proof (around $10), and maybe I’ll add the $39 Pro distribution package from Amazon for a book that starts selling well. But the entire thing is under my control. Not only is this wonderful for a fine artist, that same paradigm is true for writers, preachers, teachers, presenters, and a host of other types of creative people.
This is a brand new world!
