Making sense of your life…
Easier said than done, huh? I’ve been contemplating this issue now that I’ve “retired” — wondering what the Lord would have me do with the rest of my life. I tend to go by what He blesses. But that is certainly not a reliable indicator. You have to make certain of several things to do that:
- Are you following His lead? If not any blessings on your direction are probably from the Creep.
- Are you hearing from Him? Again, as I have taught for years, there are three sources to what you are hearing in your mind: God, yourself, or the Creep. Yes, there are subtle differences to these voices. Yes, you can learn to rely on what you hear. No, you cannot know for sure.
- Do you have peace? Here’s a troublesome one. Yes, the peace that passes understanding is real and a sure indicator that you are in the will of God. However, peace does not help you with the tough questions like: Are you being disciplined, attacked, or are you just plain stupid. Also, in our better living through chemistry society, seeming peace is drug-induced (though we all know deep inside that this is not peace but emotional numbness).
Knowing Him is the key
As I go on in this life, I am more certain every day that the key to the Gospel, the core of the Good News, is found in Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane.
John 17:3 (English Standard Version)
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
This is what will make sense of your life. Everything else is vanity. The confusing thing is that we are all doing things that don’t really matter to come to a real knowledge of our God. That’s what lasts.
So, does it matter what you do?
Of course! But don’t take it too seriously. Keep your focus. Knowing Jesus, as a person knows their spouse, is what is required. And that takes work. What people do not understand is that we are His bride now. We have become one with Him. Ain’t it cool?
Do everything as if you are doing it for Him — because the truth is, you are.
Have a nice day 😉
