This is an  excellent article in Fred Showker’s July issue of  DT&G News.

It concerns what you can put in your portfolio and the legalities of the same. Basically if it does not violate an NDA and you are not using it to make money you are fine. To rephrase, If you need to show work you did for hire or even under a non-compete agreement, you can use it in your resume/portfolio to show your experience.
