Eli's Logo
This will be a rough one for several of you. Ask the instructor to demonstrate, if necessary. There will be no visual aids this time - just a list of instructions:
The only tricky area for Illustrator users is getting the [bullet] Since 1879 [bullet] type lined up properly around the bottom.
-
On the standard default page, draw two concentric circles using the center handle in the transform proxy. The inner circle is .75" in radius -- copy it and paste in front to make an exact copy in the same location. Then scale the new copy 133%. Both circles have a half point black stroke. The outer circle is filled 24% Black. The inner circle is filled radial 35% Black to White.
-
Select Inner Circle; Copy and paste in Front
-
Choose the Path Type tool; type in Arial Black or something better at around 13 point: Serving Salmon to the Great Northwest
-
Choose the selection tool; rotate the type into position
-
Choose Path Type tool; resize and adjust the baseline shift, using the Character panel
-
Choose the Selection tool and drag a copy of the inner circle off to the side
-
Choose the Path Type tool; type in: [bullet] SINCE 1879 [bullet]
-
With the Selection tool. select the type; add the Command key (PC: Control) and drag the type inside the path and around into position
-
With Type tool, type in Eli's in any script which can come close to the same feel as the sample at the top of the page [about 50 point]
-
Choose Create Outlines for the word "Eli's"
-
Subselect the E, l, i, and s and move them so they overlap in a continuous shape
-
Use the Path tool to modify the paths as necessary
Multiple Select the E, l, i, s; and choose Effect>> Pathfinder>> Unite
-
Expand appearance so you can see if the shape is what you need
-
Choose the Selection tool; select Eli's; group the entire word
-
Use the Shear tool and the Scale tool to reshape the word into position
-
Apply a gradient with the gradient tool, dragging across the entire word from top to bottom
-
Type YUM! in Arial Black or something much better at around 12 point; resize and move into place; fill White; Stroke Black .25 point
Voila!
Save the finished drawing as a PDF and email it to the instructor.
