Gradient mesh apple

Step 1: We start
by drawing an apple.

This very easy to draw. Just pick up the pen tool or pencil tool and draw an apple shape. If you need a reference, Google for one.

Step 2: Create your
gradient mesh

With the apple selected, create a gradient mesh object of the clone by choosing Object>> Create Gradient Mesh... and typing in 7 rows and 7 columns.

Step 3: Set color palette

Delete all of the default colors, except the Reds, and then build a new set of colors for your apple. It should look something like what you see to the right.

Step 4: Add colors to the mesh

Begin adding color to the apple by dragging and dropping colors onto the mesh. Dropping color into the open areas of the mesh, colors that entire grid "cell" and half the cells on all four sides. Dropping color on a mesh point, radiates color out from that point halfway to the four points that surround it.

Step 5: Draw a stem and color it

Next draw a little stem. Add a 3x2 mesh and color it.

Step 6: Fit the stem to the apple

Send the stem to the back. Send your apple to the teacher. You may get a treat!
