Ancient lore from the Conquistadors

Again we offer you remedies that have stood the test of time. These potions, salves, and incense sticks will bring you the ancient blessings described in the medical journals recently translated from the findings of Hans Bjorgison in the archeological site on his ranch across the river from Socorro. Written by María Maldonado, wife of Juan Gomez de Paradinas who was the tailor of San Juan, this ancient formulary gathered by Padre Pedro Jaramillo is a totally unexpected treasure from the glories of Spain.

We had no idea Captain Francisco Vazquez de Coronado had left Juan and Maria to develop the medical center of San Juan de Bernardo in the bosque of the Rio Grand valley until our grandfather unearthed this carefully preserved journal in a hand-carved sandstone box in the ruins of the old medical center.

These products use only the ingredients listed in Don Pedro’s formulary. They have been carefully ground from the rocks, plants, and other materials found in the Socorro area.

There is good reason to believe that all the wild swordleaf found in the bosque today is descended from the medicinal gardens at San Juan de Bernardo. It is the only swordleaf found north of the Mexican border.

This is the area that contains the dig where Maria’s formulary was found. The actual ruins were found just beyond this little apple orchard on the steep side of this old arroyo.
