Printing Production, Prepress, preparing for the real world.

The focus of my 40-year career has been to develop and teach the procedures necessary to produce printable digital artwork, including pre-flight, separation skills, halftone production, spot color work, advanced document assembly, proofing, color management, business ethics, deadlines, & so on.

HERE'S A CD with all the PDFs written so far on these topics.

DESIGNING FOR THE PRESS
One of the major foci is on designing within the capabilities of a particular printer or press taking into account the preferences of the service bureau or printer chosen as supplier. My printing technologies PDF will help you learn the capabilities of various technologies .

DESIGNING FOR THE WEB
An increasing part of my work deals with designing within the capabilities of the World Wide Web taking into account the display abilities and download capabilities of monitors, browsers, and modems. Effective uses of CSS and SEO will be covered as these materials are written.

Digital Document Production Problems:

Current national statistics would indicate that two-thirds of all digital documents brought to service bureaus or printing establishments are unprintable (for one reason or another). This has been true since 1995 — & it's not getting any better.

In the 21st century, you will still be dealing with the same issues that plague us all. Some of the common problems are a lack of knowledge about dot gain adjustments, missing fonts, missing graphics, wrong resolutions, nested graphics, etcetera. Web problems include illegibility, long download times, over-complication, etc. These tutorial, and the PDFs on the course CD will teach youthe practicalities of design for readability and client satisfaction by focusing on the readers' needs.
