A Folding Business Card

This is a classy solution for those cards that require too much type to fit on a normal card. The important thing is to have the final folded card at the standard 2"x3.5" so it will fit in a standard business card holder or file. Even with Blackberrys, iPhones, and the like being the new business norm, cards are still regularly filed. You do not want the card tossed becaise it will not fit into a standard sized card holder.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

This client uses the business card as a price list. They make custom, pre-hung doors. They are also cabinetmakers, but their major profit source is the pre-hung doors. They have found that a simple price list on their card has brought them a lot of business. The folding card (because it is printed on both sides) also gives them a place to put a simple map.

The foldover portion is 1.5" wide so that the green box on the inside that says " Pre-Hung Doors -- Cheap!" is revealed. This is roughly what it will look like after it is printed.

The layout Page size for the document will be 3.5" tall x 3.5" wide. You will have to draw the non-printing fold marks using a separate non-printing color.

The final products:

1. A 2-page composite PDF : Outside and inside with marks

2. A 6-page pre-separated PDF

GRADING:

You start with 50 points

• 30 points: following instructions well

• 5 point bonus for superior typography

• Up to 20 bonus points for creative redesign that meets all the criteria

Penalties:

• 5 points for typos

• 10 points for wrong size of the PDF document

• 15 points for missing pieces

• 20 points for missing separations or marks.
