Set Defaults & Text Edit
Tutorial & Skill Exam
Step 1: Set document defaults:
Open new document Set page size at 10"x10", tall, set the margins at.5" with 2.5" on the left; show hidden characters; one column, optical margin alignment for 12 point
Style palette:
Here you need to set up your Styles palette. Start by selecting all the styles and deleting them (by using the Option menu popup). The make a new style and call it 2-body. You'll learn about the reasons for numbering the styles in the advanced page layout course. Each style is just a listing of specs.
2-Body: Georgia, 10/12, left justified, 1st line indent .4", tracking 0, Metrics kerning, based on No Style, 5 points before paragraph (type p5 in the field), Word spacing 85/97/115, glyph scaling 97/100/103, black shortcut Ctrl/Command-Num 2
3-Hanging: Select 2-body in palette and choose new style, Verdana, no indents, shortcut Ctrl/Command-Num 3
5-Headline: Select no style and make new style, Trebuchet Bold, 24/auto, flush left , Metrics kerning, no indents, next style 2-Body, tracking 0, Hyphenation off, auto leading 100%, 3 points after, gradient 100-30, shortcut Ctrl/Command-Num 5
6-Subhead: Based on 5-headline, Next style 6-Subhead 2, 18/19, tracking 25, 7 points before paragraph, 1 point after paragraph, rule below paragraph, 5 point, gradient 50-7, thin-thick, offset 2 points, width of column, shortcut Ctrl/Command-Num 6
7-Subhead: 2 Based on 6-Subhead, Next style 2-body, 14/14, .6" left indent, 4 points before paragraph, 3 points after paragraph, black type, rule above paragraph, 14 point, gradient 0-77, offset -2 points, width of column, left indent .4" shortcut Ctrl/Command-Num 7
Step 2: Import type & format copy
Copy and paste the type from the Web page to the new document. Place the insertion point in the first paragraph and press Ctrl/Command-Num 5. Move the cursor down the page pressing the appropriate shortcut in each new paragraph. The insertion point is enough to format the entire paragraph. Correct the typos.
Add box
With the ellipse tool draw a oval with 10 pt. line, 7-70 linear gradient and 7-70 radial fill. In the Transform palette set x: .5", y: .5"; w: 4"; h: 9". Put a .2" text wrap around the shape. Adjust the gradients to look like the sample.
Set type in the box
Choose Object | Text Frame Options and check Ignore Text Wrap in the lower left corner. Click on the oval with the text tool. Set "curved text wraps are very tricky" centered in the oval. If it doesn't look like the sample printed here, you need to examine everything to find out what you missed and fix it. So, now we need some fill copy. Mary had a little lamb -- it really freaked out the doctor. Mary was sort of blasé about the whole thing, but then she is pretty jaded.

Obviously, I played with the colors in the gradients a little. Have fun!
